Skating school

HTA’s skating school is primarily aimed at preschool and school children from the age of three.

They have the opportunity to learn how to skate through play in small groups, under the guidance of experienced instructors. Ice skating is a basic skill and a nice hobby that develops children in many ways! In all our groups, we start with the basics of skating in a safe and encouraging environment.

New skaters may attend two sessions before deciding whether to continue skating. Everyone, including newcomers trying out, should register for skating school in HTA´s myClub – see instructions below. You cannot attend skating school without registering.

The invoice will be send only after third practice, so the invoice is not automatically created when enrolling. 

NOTE There are separate groups for 9 to 14-year-old skating school students in the ice skating schools of Herttoniemi, Myllypuro, Oulunkylä and the Helsinki Ice Hall (practise rink).

NOTE Sibling discount! The club grants a discount of 10% on the season fee for a sibling skating in the club, 15% for the second sibling and 25% for the following. The discount is calculated from the lower fee or fees.

NOTE The Club does not have rental skates available. You have to have your own skates when you attend the skating school.

During the autumn season, we organize themed sessions (e.g., buddy skating, Father´s Day Skating, obstacle courses). Skating schools are also held during the autumn and winter break weeks. The skating school participants will also perform at the club’s Christmas party in December. Preliminary time is Wed 17.12.2025 at 18.00 in Kivikko ice Rink (Savikiekontie 4, 00940 Helsinki)

Our skating school’s instructors are former skaters, young adults trained by ESLU, STLL and HTA, who have experience in both doing sports and physical activities with children.

Fees and invoicing

In addition to the basic season fee, which is 159 €, we will charge the club membership fee of 45 € for the 2025-2026 season (yearly skating season 1.5.-30.4.). Note! Oulunkylä skating school is arranged 10 times/fall season and the fee is 100 €.

Skating school participants must have a mandatory skating pass, which the club will handle collectively through the Finnish Figure Skating Association – the skating school participant/registrant does not need to do this. Therefore, registering for the skating school group is sufficient! The cost of the pass (14 €) is included in the skating school’s season fee. The pass includes Sporttiturva insurance (see more information: Passi luistelukoululaiselle – Suomen Taitoluisteluliitto ry.

NOTE: Sibling discount! The club grants a discount on the season fee for siblings skating at the club, with a 10% discount for the first sibling, 15% for the second, and 25% for additional siblings. The discount is calculated based on the lower fee or fees.

As the season progresses, we will invoice based on the remaining sessions for the rest of the season!

If a skating school student misses practice sessions, they cannot be made up in other skating school classes. If the club cancels practice sessions, the club will arrange separate makeup sessions for those.

1. Registration for HTA skating school groups will take place via myClub starting September 1, 2025.

2. In addition to registering for MyClub, the skating school student must register for Suomisport and the event: ”Helsingin Taitoluisteluakatemian Luistelukoulu, syksy 2025”

If you are acting on behalf of your child, you will first create your own Sportti account and then your child’s account. You can always find your child’s Sportti account through your own account. Note For a minor child’s guardian: use your own information.
• Next log in, select the skating school that you already have registered for in HTA’s myClub and register the skating school student’s information in the group – HTA needs this information to purchase the skating school student’s skating pass.

• Continue to confirm your registration. You will receive a confirmation in your email, and you will also see the information in your Sportti account. Invoices will be sent later separately through HTA´s  myClub, so they will not be generated at the time of registration.

General rules of the skating school

1. The field used by the club and the numbers of locker rooms are displayed on the notice board at the lobby of the ice rink, near the janitor’s office.
2. The club and the ice rink are not held responsible for items left in the locker room. The last person to leave the locker room must lock the door and return the key to the coach.
3. Do not go to the ice without an instructor and leave immediately after the end of the practice.
4. Parents should bring their children to the ice and meet them beside it at the end of the lesson.
5. It is  recommended that  parents wait for their children in the proximity of the ice rink so that their children can quickly find them if he or she needs to leave a lesson for some reason.

How to proceed after skating school?

The more times a week they skate, the faster they develop and the more experience they gain. Instructors and coaches recommend moving to development groups when there is enough enthusiasm for skating several times a week!
